RF Microneedling vs Microneedling: Which Is Right for Your Skin?
Key takeaways
- Microneedling stimulates collagen and elastin by creating controlled micro-channels in the skin.
- RF microneedling adds radio frequency heat to the deeper layers of the skin to boost collagen and tighten more effectively.
- Combining both can give strong results with fewer treatments, and the right option depends on your skin and goals.

Microneedling is one of the most popular and well-evidenced treatments for age management, texture and scarring. But with radio frequency now added to many devices, one of the questions I am asked most at Skin Deep is: what is the difference, and which one do I need?
Microneedling: the foundation
Microneedling uses fine needles to create controlled micro-channels in the skin. The skin responds by repairing itself, producing fresh collagen and elastin. It is a safe, versatile treatment for fine lines, uneven texture, enlarged pores and scarring.
RF microneedling: taking it further
RF microneedling adds radio frequency energy to the needling process. Insulated needles deliver heat deep into the dermis while protecting the surface of the skin, triggering remodelling and the production of new collagen and elastin. The heat also helps tighten tissue and soften stubborn, thickened scar tissue more effectively than needling alone.
Why I combine them
At Skin Deep I use the Divine Pro because it brings both technologies together in a single treatment that can be tailored to each client. It is the basis of our Pyramid Facelift, a non-surgical option for clients who want to lift and tighten without injectables or surgery. Combined treatment aims to achieve maximum collagen and elastin renewal with fewer treatments.
Which is right for you?
The right choice depends on your skin, your concerns and your goals, which is why every treatment plan starts with a consultation. If you are in Doncaster, Epworth or the surrounding area, you can find out more about Skin Deep Clinic and book a consultation with Jody.
