How to Prepare for Your Waxing Appointment Part 2 of our “What You Need to Know Before You Book” series

Getting the Best Out of Your Waxing Appointment

No reviews

The results of your wax depend on more than just your therapist,  preparation makes a huge difference. Whether it’s your first wax or your fiftieth, here’s how to get your skin (and mindset) ready for a smooth experience.

1. Hair Length: Not Too Short, Not Too Long

Your hair should be around 5mm long — about the length of a grain of rice. If it’s too short, the wax won’t grip. Too long? It can be more painful.

If you're unsure, let your therapist trim it rather than shaving.

2. Exfoliate Gently 24–48 Hours Before

Light exfoliation (using a mitt or scrub) helps remove dead skin and lifts any trapped hairs. Avoid harsh products or over-exfoliating, just a gentle prep will do.

3. Clean Skin, No Creams or Oils

Come to your appointment with clean, product-free skin. Moisturisers, fake tan, or body oils can interfere with the wax and reduce its effectiveness.

4. Avoid Heat, Sunbeds, and Intense Treatments

Avoid:

  • Hot baths or saunas for 24 hours pre-wax

  • Sunbeds or sunbathing (can make skin more sensitive)

  • Skin treatments (like peels or retinol) in the days leading up

Let your therapist know if you’re on any new medications or products that thin the skin.

5. Plan Your Timing

Don’t wax:

  • Just before or during your period (you may be more sensitive)

  • Right before a beach holiday or event (give yourself 24–48 hours for any redness to settle)

  •

6. Nervous? Let Your Therapist Know

If you’re anxious, tell your therapist. A good professional will talk you through it and make adjustments to help you feel more comfortable.

Final Tip:

Drink plenty of water, wear loose clothing, and don’t shave between waxing appointments  it disrupts the growth cycle and can undo the benefits.
