Who it's for
Suitable for a wide range of concerns including acne and congestion, pigmentation and melasma, photodamage, dull or dehydrated skin, fine lines and acne scarring. The right peel for you is chosen at your consultation.
Expected results
Lighter peels give an immediate glow that improves over the following week. Deeper peels show results once the skin has healed and stopped shedding, usually after around ten days. Corrective peels such as DermaFrost and MandeliClear are typically repeated every 8 weeks for the best results.
Pre-care and after-care
Pre-care advice
Some peels need a period of home care preparation first. Avoid sun exposure and follow the skincare plan agreed at your consultation, and tell your practitioner about any medication or recent treatments.
After-care advice
Follow the aftercare provided for your peel. In general, use gentle products only, apply a high-factor SPF daily, avoid sun exposure and do not pick or peel flaking skin. For lighter peels, home care can usually continue as normal, but wait around 14 days before exfoliating.
Downtime depends on the peel. Enzyme, Lactic Acid and Alpha Beta peels have no downtime, while stronger peels such as DermaFrost and MandeliClear can involve between 1 and 10 days of visible peeling. Adding a Vitamin A accelerator can cause mild to moderate peeling for up to 10 days.
Peel packages: Skin Deep also offers Dermaceutic peeling packages from £450, which include three peel treatments (45 minutes each) and homecare products specific to your skin. The price shown is for the package, and your practitioner will recommend the right peel at your consultation.
Safety, risks and contraindications
Contraindications
Peels may not be suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have active skin infections, cold sores or open wounds in the area, or are using certain medications or have certain skin conditions. Your practitioner will assess this before treatment.
Side effects and risks
Common effects include redness, tingling, tightness, sensitivity, itching and flaking, which is a desired effect of some peels. Good preparation and aftercare reduce the risk of prolonged side effects or adverse reactions.
