Frequently asked questions

About the Directory

What is The Hair and Beauty Directory?
It’s a professional platform built by industry insiders to raise standards, increase visibility, and help you get found by clients through real search results, not social media algorithms. It’s more than a listing, it’s a full ecosystem designed to help you grow.

How does this differ from Treatwell or Salon Gold?
We’re not a booking site or just a directory. Each profile is built to be search engine optimised, verified, and publicly visible,  just like a mini website. You keep control of your booking system, prices, and customer journey. No commission, no hidden fees.

What kinds of professionals can join?
We support salons, solo practitioners, educators, training providers, suppliers, room rental hosts, event organisers, and more. Whether you’re mobile or multi-location, there’s a place for you.

Do I need to be qualified to join?
We support qualified professionals and those working towards it. We offer verified badges to those who’ve uploaded their credentials but we also guide those who want to improve and reach the highest standards.

What is the verification process?
Once you upload your qualifications, insurance and treatment list, our team reviews your profile and adds a Verified badge if all requirements are met. There’s also space to showcase awards, brands, and accreditations.

What does membership include?

  • An SEO-optimised profile

  • Ability to post treatments, courses, jobs, events & classified ads

  • A Verified badge if eligible

  • Support and visibility through our community and campaigns

How much does it cost?
Standard membership is currently £99 per year but this offer is ending soon. Job ads, events and classifieds are currently free and will remain so during our growth phase.

Can I link my own website or booking page?
Yes, we actively encourage linking your own systems. We don’t take bookings or charge commission.

Do I need tech skills?
No. The platform is built for professionals, not coders. We’ve kept it simple, and you can always contact support if you need help building your profile.

Where are your members based?
We’re UK-led, but the directory has members in five countries and is expanding. If you’re listed, your profile can be found anywhere in the world.

FAQ for Professionals

How can I get found online without paying per booking?
You can list your profile, treatments, and services so they’re indexed on Google. Because profiles are built with SEO at the core, you often appear in search results without paying per lead. We offer visibility without commission.

Is a website necessary to build client credibility?
Not anymore. Your directory profile works like a mini website. With keywords built into your treatment descriptions, rezoning areas, verified status, and client tags, your profile helps you show up organically.

Can new professionals use this platform too?
Yes. This is ideal for professionals early in their career. We support those who are growing with training resources, verified badges as they level up, and step‑by‑step visibility guidance.

How do I rank for specific treatments or locations?
By writing clear treatment titles (e.g. “LED facial Durham” or “neurodiverse-aware facialist UK”) and tagging your profile accordingly. Location-based phrasing helps Google show you to people searching in your area.

Can I promote training courses or events through my profile?
Yes. Listing a course, event, or job on your profile makes it searchable. People actively seeking education or career opportunities can find and contact you directly.

What’s the best way to grow bookings without social media?
Use strong content on your profile, client testimonials, treatment descriptions, and tags that match real searches. This forward-thinks beyond posting and helps you steadily appear in Google results.

How do I highlight my inclusive services or specialisms?
Use specific tags, such as “trauma-informed,” “ADHD-aware,” “HIV inclusive,” or “LGBTQ+ friendly.” These tags match client search behaviour and show your inclusive, client-focused values.

How do professionals find clients near them?
Local SEO is built-in. If someone searches “CPD facial training Newcastle” or “low-sensory salon near me,” you’re more likely to show if your profile includes those terms correctly.
