HIV Salon policy

HIV Inclusion & Non-Discrimination Policy
Our Commitment
We are committed to creating a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for every client, team member and visitor.
We recognise that people living with HIV have historically experienced stigma, discrimination and misinformation within parts of the hair and beauty industry. As a business, we are committed to ensuring all clients are treated with professionalism, dignity and respect at all times.
Our salon follows universal hygiene and infection control procedures for every client, regardless of known medical status. These standards are designed to protect both clients and professionals equally and should never depend on disclosure of a condition or diagnosis.
Consultation Forms & Confidentiality
Our consultation procedures are designed to gather information that is genuinely relevant to treatment safety, contraindications and client wellbeing.
We understand that HIV is not a contraindication to routine beauty treatments and that people living with HIV are not legally required to disclose their status to beauty professionals.
Any personal or medical information shared with us will always be treated confidentially and handled in accordance with relevant privacy and data protection legislation.
Equality & Non-Discrimination
We do not tolerate discrimination of any kind.
HIV is recognised as a protected disability under the Equality Act 2010 from the point of diagnosis. Clients will never be refused treatment solely because they are living with HIV.
Where treatment limitations or contraindications exist, decisions will always be based on individual treatment suitability, not assumptions, fear or stigma.
Universal Precautions & Salon Safety
Our salon follows universal precautions and professional hygiene standards at all times, including:
- Appropriate hand hygiene
- Cleaning and disinfection procedures
- Safe sharps handling
- Cross-contamination prevention
- Use of PPE where appropriate
- Safe disposal procedures
These standards apply equally to every client and every treatment.
Staff Education
We believe education plays an important role in reducing stigma within the hair and beauty industry.
Our team is encouraged to remain informed on modern HIV guidance, inclusive salon practices and professional responsibilities to help ensure all clients feel welcome, respected and safe within our environment.
Our Promise
We are committed to creating a salon environment built on professionalism, education and respect — one where no person living with HIV is made to feel judged, excluded or uncomfortable when accessing hair or beauty services.
