The future of skin health: peptides, exosomes + PDRN

You’ve probably been hearing a few new skincare buzzwords lately: peptides, exosomes and PDRN.
But these aren’t ingredients I’m interested in simply because they’re trending.
They represent a shift in the way we approach skin aging — away from constantly exfoliating, resurfacing and “correcting” the skin, and toward supporting the skin’s own repair and communication processes.
And that is something I’m very excited to incorporate more of at Jordyn Warren Esthetics.
First: peptides.
Peptides are short chains of amino acids — essentially small pieces of the proteins our skin relies on.
Certain peptides can act as messengers within the skin, helping support processes involved in collagen, elasticity, barrier function and repair.
Think of them less as an ingredient that forces the skin to do something and more as a way of giving the skin signals and building blocks it can use to function optimally.
Depending on the specific peptide, they can help support:
Firmer, more resilient-looking skin
Collagen and elastin
Barrier repair
Hydration
Smoother texture
The appearance of fine lines.
Then there are exosomes.
This one gets a little more science-y.
Cells naturally communicate with one another using tiny extracellular vesicles that carry signaling molecules. Exosomes are one type of these microscopic messengers.
In skincare, exosome and extracellular-vesicle technology is being explored as a way to support cellular communication, recovery and rejuvenation. Not every product marketed as “exosome skincare” uses the same technology or source, which is why formulation matters — and why I’m selective about what I bring into the treatment room.
The goal isn't to make your skin peel or feel irritated.
It's to create an environment that supports healthier-looking, more resilient skin.
And finally: PDRN.
This is the ingredient I think you’re going to be hearing A LOT more about.
PDRN stands for polydeoxyribonucleotide.
It consists of purified DNA fragments, most commonly derived from salmon DNA. PDRN has a history of use in regenerative medicine, and it has become increasingly popular in Korean aesthetic treatments and skincare because of its potential to support tissue repair and regeneration.
For the skin, that makes PDRN especially interesting for concerns like:
Fine lines + loss of elasticity
Dull or depleted skin
Compromised barrier function
Uneven texture
Dehydration
Skin recovering from stress or certain professional treatments
Instead of thinking, “How aggressively can we resurface the skin?” we're asking:
“How can we help the skin function better?”
Why am I incorporating this into my practice? Because my philosophy around skin has continued to evolve.
Healthy skin isn't skin that is constantly being stripped, peeled and forced into submission.
Especially as we age, I want to focus more on supporting repair, preserving the barrier, encouraging healthy cellular function and giving the skin what it needs to remain strong and resilient.
There will always be a place for exfoliation, corrective treatments and active ingredients. But more isn't always better.
And peptides, extracellular-vesicle technology and PDRN are opening up some incredibly exciting possibilities for exactly that.
